My client is a hugely respected regional main contractor who built their reputation in the industry and the region by delivering to their client’s requirements and on their own promises time and time again. This £60m turnover business have gone from strength to strength in recent years, even when faced with the tricky times that Brexit and Covid have forced us all to face. They have cash in the bank, a very healthy order book and ahigh performing senior management team that has clients and employees needs at the forefront of the mind.

This company’s project portfolio spans across new build and refurbishment projects, including residential (spanning from mid-level right up to super prime), education, hospitality, and heritage from £1m up to £30m in value. They cover the entire Oxfordshire region, as well as surrounding areas but never reach too far away from their head office and area of expertise. Clients include the oxford colleges and universities where this company have an amazing history of delivering work, private estates where heritage work is undertaken, and high net worth individuals who employ this business to build them their dream homes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

My client is currently looking for a Design Manager with experience of leading the design on large building projects to join their team working across a variety of new build projects spanning the oxford region. The candidate will manage the design process in order to develop a design compliant with all contract requirements and in the most cost effective way. All information will be fully coordinated in order to deliver the project on time, within budget and to meet the client requirements. This individual will join the team at this Oxfordshire based contractor and start on of three projects, depending on the individual’s location, experience, skillset, and preference. The projects in question are 2 super prime residential projects for private clients in the £10m range, and a large heritage refurbishment project – all are within 30 mins drive of Oxford.

The current delivery team require a Design Manager with a strong history of working for well-established main contractors on multi-million-pound projects from pre-construction through the delivery phase. The ideal candidate will have worked on projects which relate directly to this one. My client is keen to find someone with strong technical knowledge and will offer the opportunity to progress within the business.

The company require this Design Manager to have a strong history of managing residential or heritage projects of a high standard from pre-construction through to completion whilst boasting a strong technical knowledge alongside the ability to manage up and down the management and supply chains.

Once this individual has settled into their project, the long-term plan will be for them to move into a more senior role, not only managing live projects but also one’s at pre-construction stage, whilst implementing new and improving current design process and procedure. As this business grows, this role will grow with it, giving someone with a long term attitude the ability to climb the ranks.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

The salary will be dependent on level of exposure to industry. The company offers excellent opportunities and offers a basic salary of up to £75,000 and a generous benefits package. REQUIREMENTS

Candidates applying for this position must have extensive experience working in a design focussed role for large or mid-size main contractors, as opposed to housing developers of architectural practices. They must have worked on relevant project types to match a business of this size, scale, and specialism as the main design contact for the project.

This company hire for the long term, not project by project, and as such like to employ people with a steady and stable career history, with only a handful of previous employers. Although work experience is of course relevant, attitude towards career progression is the biggest driver for this business, and the ability to show your willingness to work hard, learn and succeed before during and after interview will put you in great stead.
