ABOUT THE COMPANY

Based in Buckinghamshire (just off the M25) this privately owned business specialises in the construction of reinforced concrete structures and associated groundwork packages while working for major civil engineering main contractors or schemes such as HS2. They currently turnover around £20 million per annum but with sensible plans in place for targeted growth, this is expected to increase by around £5-£10m per annum.

They offer a modern image with a very nice office, excellent in-house capability and great standards for quality in everything they do. They maintain a focus on developing their systems before expanding their workload, and this is demonstrated as they own their own building, their own plant, their own formwork and much more. The business directors are constantly focusing on investing back into the business to build in security for everyone that works there, plus better working conditions and capabilities for moving forward. This truly is a very exciting business to work for.

On a personal note, I have a huge amount of respect for the owner of this business. Having come from a site background himself, he (and his team) has done well to carve out a reputable business in a lucrative sector, focusing on solving clients’ problems and therefore being the company of choice. With one eye on the future, this owner is now looking to expand his senior team, and while doing so, he is prepared to share the benefits of success with those on the journey with him. That is something I truly respect.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a lead role, heading up a preconstruction / estimating department within a modern concrete structures and groundwork business. You will have a direct working relationship with the MD and all the senior management team, and you will have the autonomy to run and develop your own department as you see fit.

Career opportunities like this don’t come along very often.

Initially, you will need to be hands-on, still pricing and taking tenders all the way through from enquiry, so this may suit a Senior Estimator who is looking to step forward. But you will also have the ability to grow and develop your own team from day one, so leadership skills will be required (hence the title and opportunity to be a shareholder).

So, we need someone capable of pricing a variety of concrete structures and groundwork packages on major civil engineering schemes, for a £20 million turnover concrete & groundwork contractor. But that someone should see this opportunity as a chance to take a lead role with a percentage of ownership, so your success will benefit you as well as the owners.

REQUIREMENTS

Suitable applicants will have worked in the concrete structures and groundwork sector for a number of years. You should be involved with tending and producing estimates while also handling preconstruction meetings for these types of work with packages ranging anywhere from £500,000 up to £10,000,000 each or above. If you have this capability and are ready to take the step (or have already taken this step) into a leading department head role, then you are ideal for what I am looking for.

REWARDS AND BENEFITS

As well as an excellent starting offer of around £120,000 to £150,000 per annum, you will also have targeted yearly bonuses and associated benefits. And just in case you missed it, shares are on the table too! Our client is open to people looking for PAYE or self-employed employment methods (i.e. Limited Company status).

Beyond these basic payment rewards, you will be part of the senior team within a growing and ambitious company. This role will develop with time, and as a director of the business, you’ll have a chance to play a key part in how the business moves forward. And in return, all our client is looking for is someone who shares their passion for this sector and is in it to help build a better company for the future.
