The group I am recruiting for has a turnover of £1 billion and is split into
five different divisions. The civils part of the business is turning over
£750M. The sectors that they work within include major infrastructure
projects, roads and highways, surfacing, and maintenance contracts.
The company is involved in projects like HS2, an Eco park in north
London, an oil refinery for Esso, and council contracts, ranging from
£500,000 up to £300M. They also have long-term frameworks of up to 20
years with clients like Highways England and the Eastern Highways
Alliance.
The company provides a diverse range of specialist construction and
engineering services. They create and maintain assets for both public
and private sector customers in the specialist sectors of highways and
engineering.
My client’s area of expertise is in transport infrastructure and urban
development, producing specialist, market leading materials and
construction services to the UK highways industry. Their knowledge and
technical expertise has enabled investment in growth to develop
innovative and sustainable construction techniques and solutions that
benefit road users, airports, stadiums, playgrounds and pedestrian
footways across the UK.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is supervisory work involving responsibility for the proper care, trimming
and planting of the many park, playground and roadside trees in a
Hertfordshire. You will receive only general infrequent instructions from the
supervisor and must determine the best and most efficient methods for
completing assigned tasks. Supervision will be exercised over a small group
of tree climbers and other workers. Your role will also involve looking at
packages of works, checking on sub-contractors, overseeing the Health and
Safety of sub-contractors on site and responding to emergencies
Planning programmes and carrying them out within budget and timescales
will also form part of your day to day duties.
You will ideally have a good knowledge of the principles and practices of tree
planting and tree care; good knowledge of the equipment, methods and
safety practices used in tree trimming, felling and spraying; ability to identify
common tree diseases; ability to supervise the work of others; willingness to
work under hazardous conditions; willingness to work in all weather
conditions; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the
demands of the position.
The role is based in Stevenage and you will travelling around Hertfordshire
on a day to day basis.
Your working hours will be
Mon – Thursday (6:30 – 4:15pm
Friday (6:30 – 3:15)
Winter maintenance – October
1 in 3 or 4 weekends
REQUIREMENTS
You must have both tree and chainsaw experience along with
CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39 competency certificates (or LANTRA
equivalent) as a minimum, refreshed within the last 5 years.
IOSH Managing Safety or SMSTS is also required.
It would also be ideal if you have RFS Modules, LOLER, CSCS, CS41, PA1
and PA6 (spraying), Safe Use of Stump Grinder, and significant industry
experience.

£36,000- £38,000 + package which includes a company van.
